The Importance of Creating Daily Rituals

We all have things we do daily, often without even recognizing them, that would make our days a little less bright if they didn't include these things.

The difference between making something into a ritual and just doing the task for the sake of doing it is intention. You can make anything into a ritual if you bring intention into it.

Rituals are things you do each day that bring you joy. They can be as simple as making your favorite beverage in the morning and taking a few moments for yourself or something as complex as a 2-hour bedtime routine. We create daily rituals and practices not only to help keep us balanced and present but also to give ourselves an opportunity to check in with our inner landscape.

When you practice something daily with intention, you create a habit for yourself. You're making a commitment to yourself and your well-being, which, in turn, builds self-trust.

One of my favorite rituals I do each day is my morning practice. Most days, I typically wake before the rest of the house because that quiet time is where I find my peace as I start my day. I make a cup of tea, sit on the couch with a cozy blanket, and take a few deep breaths. I check in with myself to see what feelings arise. Then, I meditate for anywhere from 5 to 10 minutes, depending on how I'm feeling that day and how much time I have. Afterward, I give myself some time to journal if I feel called. This doesn't take me much time, 20 minutes in total, but it truly helps set the tone for my day. Even on busy mornings, I still make sure to take at least 5 minutes to check in with myself and breathe because consistency is a key building block for daily rituals and practices.

What are your daily rituals? I invite you to think of 1-2 things you do daily that bring you joy. It could be making your morning cup of coffee, taking a walk, or even just taking a few moments to stretch your body if you've been sitting at a desk or driving for a long time. It could be something you already do or something that you would like to add to your day. With these things in mind, start to practice them intentionally each day. Your intention can differ each day, or you can focus on a theme. Notice how you start to feel after a week of daily practice, then after 2 weeks of daily practice or even a month.
